Sweat it out and soak it up with ginger!

I love ginger in my tea, my cookies, my stir fry... and now I love it in my baths, too. Why, you ask? Well, leave it to me to find the latest way to sweat, and this time, it's the result of relaxation, not working out. As much as a good run or sitting down with a cup of ginger tea is my mental "detox" from the world, a certain type of bath actually works to detoxify the entire body, ridding you of the toxins you (probably unknowingly) consume all the time. Of course, detox baths are nothing new - they are an ancient remedy for ridding the body of toxins much like the kidneys do.

And what does ginger have to do with it? Well, as it turns out, ginger is a favorite detox bath addition because it opens up your pores, making you wear more - thus getting rid of more toxins. Ginger lovers like me will appreciate the aromas, too!

Before you start, you should have about two tablespoons of fresh, grated ginger and eight to 10 drops of ginger oil. The water you use to draw the bath should be as hot as you can stand without burning or scalding your skin. As the bath fills, add the ginger and oil to the running water. Hop in, and relax for no more than 20 minutes. Use this time to chill out, meditate, sniff the delicious gingery air... whatever you like to do to relax.

When you get out, you will sweat for another hour or so, so wrap yourself in a robe or towel and give yourself some time to rest. It's also crucial that you drink lots of water during this time to replace the fluids you're sweating out.
