Perk up your peepers with the right eye shadow
by Katie |  Jul 10, 2013

Whether you're into smoky, light or over-the-top eye makeup, one thing's for sure: some products are truly a step above the rest. If you're like me, you probably rock the same, sometimes boring, eye shadow, liner and mascara day in and day out. Since summer is a great time to step outside the box, I've made it my mission to figure out a few new ways to enhance my peepers. While adding blue liner or a bit of sparkle to your lids is a must, figuring out what hues work best for your eye color is the first step to accentuating the gateways to the soul with ease. Here are a few color options specific to eye hues:

Blue-eyed babes
If you were blessed with bright blue eyes like Jennifer Lawrence, Cameron Diaz or Zooey Deschanel, it doesn't take much to add some sass to your style. However certain hues do stand above the rest when it comes to playing up your eye color. Since blue is a cooler tone, it's typically best to complement the color with warmer shades like gold, copper and brown.

However, a makeup artist told Elle magazine that blue-eyed gals can also strut their stuff wearing sleek silvers and grays.

"I like using gray-brown, slate or even silvery blues," the famed professional told the publication. "And if a woman's eyes are deep navy, I'll even use eggplant! Just keep in mind that when you have an eye color that's light, like blue, avoid putting too much color on the lid. It distracts from the beauty of the eye."

Adding volume to your lashes using the talika heated eyelash curler is another way to create the doe-eye dazzle.

Brown-eyed girls
Sure, blue-eyed gals might garner more attention for their peepers, but there is something about deep, chocolate brown eyes that scream sexy. If you have gorgeous dark-colored peepers like Kerry Washington, Jennifer Lopez or Kim Kardashian, it's important to figure out how to create a sultry look that is sure to garner plenty of attention from the opposite sex.

Not only do you have the ability to literally make a guy weak in the knees thanks to the color of your eyes, but the neutral shade also means you can have more fun when it comes to using eye makeup. However, the makeup artist told Elle that brown-eyed babes should try to accentuate the deepness of their eyes by rocking warm bronze and peach-colored products. On the same note, donning surprising teal or purple shadow on a date night is a great way to keep your beau focused on you.

Green-eyed goddess
Mysterious ladies like Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Scarlett Johansson have more than just their good looks in common - they also all have green eyes. These color chameleons can easily transitioning to a darker brown hue or a lighter gray hue with a change in scenery or wardrobe.

While it may be easy to garner attention with green peepers, accentuating the lids with shades in sepia, rust and purple are best.

"To enhance eyes even more, dab a bolder color just on the center of the eyelid as a highlight," another makeup professional told Elle.

Adding a deep purple hue to the center and a lighter rust shade on the rest of the lid is a great way to play up the eyes without going overboard.

With all of these looks, it's best to keep the rest of your makeup minimal. For example, when I want my eyes to be the star of the night, I simply swipe on a thin layer of chantecaille save the sharks palette on my lids and nuxe lip balm prodigieux on my pout.
