Get a last-minute Halloween costume that's not a bunch of hocus pocus
by Lisse |  Oct 2, 2012

When I was younger, I had my Halloween costumes planned in June. My best friend and I would spend months making sure the ensembles we wore when we went trick-or-treating were perfect. Granted, we were usually witches, but we had every detail of that homemade witch costume nailed.

These days, I don't plan so much. Halloween is a fun holiday, sure, but it can be hard to make the time to put tons of effort into a costume. Maybe you were just planning on staying home and watching Hocus Pocus or another one of your favorite Halloween movies this Hallows' Eve and were invited to a last-minute costume party, or maybe you just haven't had a minute to think about what to be. Most likely the costume store is going to be sold out, so you need a homemade costume, and fast.

Want to be something a little more creative than a cowgirl, nurse or hippie this year? Try one of these on for size.

A highway
Dress in all black and attach yellow electrical tape down your front and back in two parallel lines. You can make traffic signs or stop lights, or attach toy cars. Beanie Baby roadkill is optional!

Static cling
Wear a sweatsuit and attach socks, washcloths and other small dryer staples alongside dryer sheets to yourself. You can use clothespins or a more discreet attachment material.

Self absorbed
This is one Kathie Lee Gifford rocked on the Today Show last year, but extremely easy to create at home, too! Dress in one solid color then attach sponges to your entire body to be self-absorbed all night long.
