Remember when you were little and you thought broccoli was the weirdest thing on the planet and couldn't BELIEVE your parents were trying to get you to actually EAT the stuff? I remember going to great lengths to avoid peas. You have probably gotten over most of your good-for-you food qualms, but guess what? There are more. There are some things that even us big girls would find weird to eat. If you can overcome these weird food challenges, you might not get an extra cookie for dessert, but you could reap some serious health benefits!

Pickle juice. Are you a runner? Pickle juice (no, not Beetlejuice, don't worry) has been proven to help reduce pain and undo knots in your muscles. Scientists think the juice from a jar of pickles replaces sodium and fluid lost when you sweat, and the acidity of the vinegar kills cramps in your muscles. Would you chug a jar after your next 5K?

Dandelion greens. Dandelions are a gardener's worst nightmare, but they may be your best friend once you realize how healthy they are for you. Like many other greens, dandelion greens (yes, the actual leaves from those yellow garden weeds) are a fantastic source of vitamins A, C, E and K, and also provide plenty of folate, magnesium, phosphorus, fiber, copper, thiamin, riboflavin, B vitamins, calcium, iron, potassium and manganese. Ready to start munching? You'll have to overcome the bitter, astringent flavor first.

Wheatgrass. You may have heard about those strange green shots, and they're not the kind you take at the bar on St. Patty's Day. Wheatgrass juice is extracted from quick-growing red wheat sprouts, and contains 70 percent of your daily vitamin A and 20 percent of your recommended iron for the day. Drinking this stuff regularly is said to be particularly good for digestive health, and it contains a boatload of enzymes, amino acids, protein, beta carotene, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and potassium, among others. Why shoot it back? The liquid form allows for a maximum absorption of the many nutrients, but you have to withstand the taste of cut grass with hints of asparagus as this liquid cascades down your throat.

Now, I can't guarantee you'll have superpowers after consuming these green giants of nutrition, but there's nothing wrong with trying new fruits and incorporating different vegetables into your diet. You might just find your new favorite health food!
