Dear Skincare Strat-Age-ist, Technically, our skin starts aging (oh, the inevitable dread of dermal downfall) somewhere between our twelfth and thirteenth birthdays. This is the age when the oxygen levels that naturally reach our skin cells (via the normal effects of blood circulation) starts to drop because our capillaries start to thicken in response to exposure to sun, environmental stresses, and pollution. And while I recommend the liberal use of sunscreen from a very early age (although not many kids think ?sun damage while slamming their beachball across their sisters sandcastle), Id give you a little leeway and say that the prime time for picking up on age-prevention products is probably in your mid twenties. What to stock up on? As a general rule, opt for formulas that contain free-radical scavengers like grapeseed extract, green tea, or vitamins C and E (such as
Laboratoire Remède Complete Treatment Anti-Aging/Wrinkle Control). Include some type of exfoliant (
Bliss Sleeping Peel Serum), like alpha hydroxy acids, amino acid antoxidants, retinol, enzymes, that can be used as necessary (whenever you notice fine lines or blackheads building up), a great hydrating base (my favorites are hyaluronic acid, fucogel, vitamin Es and glycerin-- see
Laboratoire Remède Soft Focusing Lotion) or a hydrating booster. Id also recommend using a specifically formulated eye cream like
Laboratoire Remède High Energy Eye Contour, one that includes extra lipids. And again, dont forget daily SPF, because unfortunately its easier to do sun damage than 'undamage'. Good luck on the 'return' trip!
