question

What is the difference between fruit acid, glycolic acid and lactic acids for use in facials, and is there a difference between acid washes and acid peels?

ANSWER
A very good question! Both lactic and glycolic acids are considered to be parts of the larger group of acids known as fruit acids. There are five main acids:
•Tartaric (from Grapes)•Mallic (from Apples)•Lactic (from Milk - not a fruit, but still recognized in the category)•Citric (from Citrus Fruits - but don't try rubbing lemons on your face...it could sting!) and •Glycolic (from Sugar Cane)
Glycolic acids are considered to be the most effective, because the molecules are very small, and they penetrate into the skin more readily. Lactic Acids are always a favorite for body creams-- we think it's why Cleopatra used to bathe in milk! Fruit acid peels and washes are-- in our opinion-- pretty much the same thing, with different tags. Both work wonders in taking off dead skin cell layers, and helping you achieve a fresher complexion. I hope I've helped clear up (no skincare pun intended) a few things for you!
